Firstly, you should understand that the setup process of the React native Environment varies based on the choice you make. Yes, you have to select a specific Target OS and Development OS. As far as Development Os is concerned, you can choose from Linux, macOS, and Windows. On the other hand, in Target OS, the available options are iOS and Android.

Based on this selection, the setup process will vary. Here, I have selected Windows and Android platforms.

Also, you have to choose any one React Native tool from React Native CLI and Expo Go.

Here, I have chosen the React Native CLI as the right tool for our project development.

So, the software that you have to download for the above preferences are JDK, Node, Android Studio, VS code editor, and React Native CLI.

The VS Code editor is an IDE that will allow you to edit the code. Android /studio will allow you to set up your emulator or virtual device.

This is the following step in the environment setup process. You have to make a template or a file. This will be in your local drive C, D, E, or F. Get a folder in any of these drives and run cmd from this folder.

Then, pass a command line npx react-native init Calendar_Project --version 0.68.1 in the command prompt.

Calendar_Project is the name of your template and 0.68.1 is the version of React Native you will use. You cannot use another version as it will give rise to some unnoticed errors or bugs. However, you can change the name of the temple folder if you want.

If you have worked on a React Native project, you must have been familiar with the third-party libraries or packages of the React Native framework. This is one of the most useful support that the framework provides to its developers. With this support, you don't have to create a codebase for every component. You can either import it from the React Native core library or any of its third-party libraries.

What you need to do is acquire knowledge of the usage of these libraries.

Here, you have to use the third-party library: react-native-calendar-picker.

You can install and link this in your project. For doing this, run npm install --save react-native-calendar-picker on a newly created project terminal.

In this section, you will start creating the codebase. Open the App.js folder of your created template and follow the given sections.

The first task is to get the components using the import statement. For the present project, you need Stylesheet, View, and Text components. Also, the code needs useState, React, and CalendarPicker.

Note that for all these components and hooks, you have to consider three different libraries.

You cannot import components from anywhere you feel like. You have to be specific with the components and the libraries.


useState hook is used in this code syntax related to which there are two state variables: 

. All these hooks and state variables are embedded in the main component App. two parameters are taken for the useState hook. One is the initial value and the other one is the updated value after it encounters any change in the state variable’s value. Null is used as the initial value for both state variables.

Following this, minDate and maxDate functions are used to set the range of the date available to your calendar.


onDateChange is the function used in this code snippet. It takes two arguments: date and type. This function will activate if there is any change in the date.

It also uses the conditional statements: if/else. If the type parameter is the same as ‘END_DATE’ then the selected end date is set to the date. If it is not, the selected end date is set to a null value.


Here, it renders a view element and the calendar picker element. Certain properties and values are added with the Calendar Picker. The date of this calendar picker will start from Monday. It will allow users to select a range of dates. Min date and max date are the same as those mentioned above in code snippet 2. onDateChange is used as a property to callback the function onDateChange.

Specific background colors are used for the seated day, the text of the selected day, and the background color of today’s date.

There is another segment where two text elements SELECTED START DATE and ELECTED END DATE are added using the text tag and the View tag.

Also, it checks whether the variables: selectedStartDate and selectedEndDate are given value or not.


Finally, you have to export the app component and consider the Stylesheet object for styling the app further. Here, I have not used it further.

As we have completed building the project, it's time to run the program and check if it is running properly.

To check it, we have to run the program on the emulator. Follow the steps given below for this task.

Create a terminal in your template folder and run npm install. Then you need to pass npx react-native run-android.

After passing both these commands if it starts bundling, you have successfully created the project.

The NetInfo API provides a way to determine if the device is online or offline and the type of connection (WiFi, cellular, etc.). Let's start with the prerequisites context.

Downloading software for the Environment setup

The step of the Environment setup is crucial. You cannot move forward with building a React Native project if you have not installed the required SDKs and software. For the current project, you require JDK, Node, Android Studio, and React Native CLI.

You have the choice to select other Development OS such as Linux and macOS. In that case, the process and software would be different. You can learn more about it from the developers of the React Native app development company.

Since I want to develop my project on Windows, I need the said software.

Also, you can choose either ExpoCLI or React Native CLI tool. In the current regard, I have selected the React Native CLI tool.

This step is necessary before adding a codebase.

This is the main file of the project. It is called NoConnection.js. You can give it a different name based on your project needs and personal preferences.

Then start coding with the import statement. ‘Import’ is used to get the components. Here, these are Text, View, TouchableOpacity, StyleSheet, and Image. The components used so far are for creating the app’s UI. also, you either can or not import the entire React library as shown in the second line.

The code introduces the component NoConnection. This component will be exported later to allow users to use it in the App.js file. Here is the feature of code reusability in React Native. An alert() function is stored under the ‘Check’ variable.

It then returns the Image embedded under the View element. There are some styling attributes used with the View elements. The image source is taken from the asset folder.

It uses the touchableOpacity component to make the button clickable. The text ‘Retry’ will be added to the button. It has an event handler onPress which will call the ‘Check’ function. So, the button will be activated as soon as the user clicks on the button.
